Progress Update on My Book Exploring Wrestling — February 2026

Uncategorized

This is a brief update on the writing of my book. Originally planned for December, publication was delayed by the arrival of my second child and academic paper revisions. I have been writing in earnest since February 2026.

Current Title and Chapter Structure

Working title: Exploring Wrestling: An Anatomical Atlas of a Sport Without Easy Answers

  • Prologue: What It Means to Dissect Wrestling
  • Chapter 1: The Competitive Structure and Match Characteristics of Wrestling
  • Chapter 2: What Physical Conditions Does Wrestling Require?
  • Chapter 3: Why Is Disrupting Balance So Effective?
  • Chapter 4: What Do Strong Wrestlers See, and How Do They Decide?
  • Chapter 5: Can the Nervous System Be Trained?
  • Epilogue: The World Beyond the Dissection

Approximately 43,000 Japanese characters written. Target publication: June or July 2026.

Reflections on the Writing Process

As a researcher I want to avoid overstating findings, but I also want the book to be genuinely readable. Striking that balance has been harder than expected. This book is intentionally different from existing wrestling literature — technique manuals, coaching philosophies, memoirs. I am writing something closer to a compass for deeper thinking about wrestling.

“This book is not a how-to manual for winning. Rather, it aspires to be a compass — a guide for readers who want to think deeply and continuously about their own wrestling.”
